Mojo -> Googlebowling - Link Sabotage (4/19/2005 17:56:29)

With recent changes in the google algo it appears to be easier than ever before to harm your competition.

Easiest way - Turn your spammy site links toward the mark and ... wait ... wait... **Bam**

Googlebowling

I've heard this also. I just can't see Google not editing the algo on this note. How can a webmaster be blamed for the scenario you just painted? They can't is the only answer. I could see if the source site was "known" for selling text ad links. A 10 year old could get a site removed based on this algo.

Goggle guy hope you report back to the mother ship dude [8|]. Money sure seems to be talking since the IPO [:@][:@][:@].

Take care,

Brian

Don't believe a thing GG says... I think he has been feeding the webmaster community BS from the beginning. The Google algo is broke and the only way they know how to fix it is to run psy-ops.

They shouldn't - that's for sure, but goog can't seem to figure out how to right the ship. PR works as long as everyone does nothing to increase their site ranking. Since everyone tweaks their site to rise in the SERPs PR just becomes another seo tool.

If you read their patent application you would see that they include penalties for links coming too fast or leaving too quickly. I'm sure they have benchmarks that if you go above - that is when a penalty could happen. Once the benchmark is discovered - Look out.

What is wrong with selling text ad links? OF does it (as well as 10,000's of other sites) Or, do you mean selling PR?

See the delima? They both look exactly the same, but the intent of the ads are different. How does a computer discern the spirit/intent of an ad link?

Point.

Shame about GG [8|].

Hopefully G will see the mistake of the algo and change it ASAP.

On selling text ads yes I was reffering to obtain or sell PR.

Take care,

Brian

The rumors are circling fast that Googlebowling works. One of the big SEO players has indicated that he was recently offered big bucks to point some of his 500,000 back links at a competitor. I don't know if he did or didn't, but the implecations are scary.

Have gun, will travel....

10 days later on this thread and no action via Googles algo. Add on the total gestation time from when teh algo went into the wild and Google has failed again IMHO. This is sort of going down the road like the redirects have played out [image]http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/image/s6.gif[/image] [image]http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/image/s9.gif[/image] [image]http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/image/s7.gif[/image] [image]http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/image/s8.gif[/image].

IPO sure seems to have changed things.

Take care,

Brian

Well said.

The redirect problem was especially frustrating with Google denying there was an issue until a couple of bloggers picked up on it.  This lead to Slashdot running with it and finally Google said they will look into it.  Lame and lazy.

Remember, Google doesn't claim people can't hurt your site. They claim:

[quoteThere is almost nothing a competitor can do to harm your ranking or have your site removed from our index]

I added the bold...

Do you want to hurt your competition? Purchase ROS links on some large sites - use the same anchor text on each link - do this with several sites - keep adding tons of links for a few months and watch what happens. Google Bowling.

Serious webmasters have been executing link sabotage on the competition for years, but now it is available for the masses.

ROS?

Take care,

Brian

Mojo -> RE: Googlebowling (5/2/2005 11:54:35)

ROS = run of site

Links on every page.
