How do I get rid of cached login information? - 4/20/2005 11:04:45
OK, here's the problem. I've got a user who's having problems logging into a subweb. I'd like to debug this from my desk. However, at one point in time, I must've clicked the "Save my Password" checkbox, and now I no longer get prompted when opening the web. How do I "Unsave" this login information so that I am once again prompted every time I login??? Thanks for your help!

I think you need to clear the relevant cookies from your machine - that usually works for me with stubborn passwords.

Womble - Thanks for the quick reply! Actually, let me clarify. My user is having problems logging in through Frontpage to author their subweb. When I try and log in through Frontpage, it doesn't prompt me for a password when I open the subweb, because I must have checked the "save my password" checkbox in Frontpage when prompted before. It automatically logs me into any web I want with my administrator ID and password, however I would like to be prompted for my ID/pwd so I can test the user's ID who is having the problem. To sum, all the logging in is done in Frontpage. Where does Frontpage store this info, or how can I clear it out so I'm prompted again? Thanks!

Hi again, Ah, I see what you mean now! I've just done a search in FP 2K3 help and ended up on the M$ site - http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/assistance/HA011906671033.aspx. From what it says the FP ones seem to be stored right along with the others (though I could be wrong on this – anyone more experienced and knowledgeable than me on these matters, please feel free to join in). I tried it on mine and looked in the list of cookies it brought up, and amongst them was one for my domain (which has nothing on it using cookies). You should be able to find one for your web/subweb. If the theory’s correct you should be able to simply delete that, and it should clear the problem. Let me know if that helps.

wildman, I have noticed that sometimes that Ad-Aware SE Personal will remove these types of things. I would run that, and see if it does the trick. Also check to see if you need the login from another computer.. Maybe the server is not asking for it?

All it takes is one try, so we know for sure that the server is asking for a user/pass. Have you tried Ad-Aware SE Personal and see if that deleted the file that has your user/pass stored in the cache somewhere?

Sorry Bobby - After re-reading my response, it wasn't that clear. I HAVE verified from another user's PC, that the server is indeed prompting for a userID/password. In fact, I verified from 2 other users' pcs that it prompts. It's only mine that doesn't prompt.

It was clear, that's why I said "All it takes is one try, so we know for sure that the server is asking for a user/pass." Meaning we know it is not a problem with the server.

Hey Spooky - Delete all files in suggested directories. Still no dice...

I can guarantee that the site is protected. If I access from any other PC than my own, I get prompted for a userID/password in FrontPage before I can get to the subweb. I also tried deleting the web out of My Network Places, but still no prompt.
