A Real Newbie Here - 4/21/2005 15:25:36
Hey everyone! I have used FrontPage a little but for the first time I am using a template and I'm a little confused why when I save the site it only saves as individual web pages and not as a full site. I'm wondering if there is someone here that can go through the process with me from opening the template the first time to saving and renaming it as a new "web site" (not just a web page). Hope I'm making some sense here. I look forward to getting to know some of you. Jen

Jen, With FrontPage open, >>File>>Open (Browse for Template) then, with template files displayed, find and click on the index.htm (or index.html) file. Template opens in FrontPage with Folders displayed in Navigation view. Make a minor change (home page), then >>Save As (your own unique name). Suggestion: organize your files so that they are easy to find (and backup) by moving them to MyDocuments/FrontPage/Unique Name. Welcome to OutFront!

Jen, Sounds to me like you're not working from a template, just a single page. A template is self-contained; it has a collection of files (including an index) and will display as a series of folders topped by a home page in FrontPage Navigation view when the index file is clicked. There are many free FrontPage templates out there that you can download and practice on. If you can't find one let me know and I'll send one to you.

I tried that exactly like you said. It saved it as a web page, but when I go to File, Open Web it's not listed there Jen, Try this: with FrontPage closed, find "A Template", right click and rename to "My Template". Then move "My Template" to MyDocuments/FrontPage (create the FrontPage subdirectory if it does not exist). Then open FrontPage >>File>>Open (Browse for "My Template") and, with template files displayed, find and click on the index.htm (or index.html) file. After opening once in FrontPage, "My Template" should show-up in >>File>>Recent Sites.

Jen, The "html" in your path statement: C:\Documents and Settings\Jennifer Wilson\My Documents\FrontPage\My Template\html\index.html is a puzzler. Since, however, the site files now call-up alright, put this in the category of a non-problem. You can experiment with path statement changes by moving "My Template" files to another location - a suggestion is placing in the root directory to see what happens. My equivalent path statement, btw, reads: C:\Documents and Settings\Larry M.\My Documents\FrontPage\My Template\index.htm quote:
I'm not quite sure why there are two "images" folders. There are no files in the second images folder Go ahead and delete the second "Images" folder. Make a backup copy of the original template before going any further for insurance purposes.
