Wondering if I can pick your brain for a moment? (Anyone else welcome if they are interested/wanna help/learn from the forums king of SEO bling knowledge) http://www.smileyxtra.co.uk/ (PR 3) Is a firefox extension developers site, and uses my smileys (by linking too my smileys on my server and using my bandwidth, which was agreed upon as people hit my site & use them on forums in the same manner and why they are there) so therefore links directly to my smiley site per my T&C's/SOP for their use. http://ganjataz.com/smileys/ (PR 4) Links too his site. (Although it needs updating as he now has a New domain name so it seems and has not informed me his URL's have changed, will deal with that [links] tommorrow and have a chat with him when I catch him online next.) However, he has been linking too my site for ages, several months in fact, yet no Google backlink shows or has done as far as I can recall? link:http://ganjataz.com/smileys/ I think there are a few other places that link up with my site (text link only and banner image links) they don't have a link from mine, yet they are not showing either. I do have a site I know will get picked up soon which I can bench mark how fast I should look at getting a link from a fresh source for gaugeing up purposes etc. Cos I am not sure what is happening here or where I am going wrong, Whats going on, can you shed some light please? With your well gen'ed up & staggering skills in this area, what am I losing and gaining from this how things currently stand. Purely from my point of view at the moment please, I can worry about sorting out the issues he may be gaining/losing once I speak with him about not informing his URL's had changed (Both site and extension URL, which has left me having broken links on my page for I dunno how long.) I will alter the links in the morning, so the links work and the mutual back link works correctly and as they should. Once I have done that, am I gaining anything in PR or Google with this set up, or am I losing out on something by being linked with this site and this is why Google is maybe not giving me my fair share of points meet prizes results in this area. Or anything else of that nature/SEO clangers being made here that I have not understood correctly or am doing seriously wrong, all heads up from ground up would be appreciated. A tiny list of what I am doing right will soften the blow greatly too please. =] Both sites are valid at a decent enough level of html/css so are pretty x/browser compatible for standard browsers of users who would be using or searching/surfing these kind of sites for smileys specifically. The main users we attract is Forum/community members wanting smileys to post on their fave boards blah bla blah, so are just looking directly at websites with high amounts of small images of this nature, then whatever site images are there and expect a script of some sort to run so the URL can be gained by clicking the smiley. Or E-Mail writers for spamming work mates or showing emotes etc when chatting via electronic means etc. For what we are and what we do our PR is OK I guess as we are both small sites and he has obviously just changed servers/URL's possible. How can we be doing better, what should we be doing less of? (It is admitted in IE [some of the] page/s may need to be refreshed for a full load at the moment depending on number of smileys or their size (The Broadband smiley pad is a killer in IE, but once it's been fully loaded it's fast as when visited again/used as Bookmark/Favourite/used as a Smiley Pad System) on some pages due to them being animated smileys or just cos there is a lot of choice. But it loads like a shot in FF, which is what it was written/validated with @W3C standards & for use with. This is from my experience building it on a 512k unstable broadband point of view of course. I've tried keeping it a simple and a 56k friendly set up in most ways even with the nature of the content it's pretty light weight and the Faster surfers can suck that Smiley Pad down pretty sharpish. Both sites are very light on flashes and bangs, more just a sleek system done with simple code for ease of use as we know our market cos we created the pages for what we enjoy doing or do a lot of.) TIA. :]
