Microsoft Pictureit! Publishing - 4/24/2005 11:12:47
Has anyone ever used MS Pictureit! Publishing?

It has lots of very creative tools, multiple save options and is easy to use, yet I never see it mentioned in graphics discussions. Why?

Probably because we've all shelled out for PSP, Photoshop, Fireworks etc before Picture It turned up.

Apart from that, if it's that easy to use then no self respecting web designer will go near it (at least, not officially) Good Lord! we have standards to maintain you know.

We have to be seen to work with stuff nobody else understands to justify the salary. :)

LOL- Great response JB!

"Picture It Express version 7.0" comes free with most of the packs of Avery photo paper in the office supply stores where I live.

I own an older full version (2.0) also but always seem to use PSP, Photoshop Elements. It came free with one of the computers I bought a while back. When it came time to buy I chose PSP and Photoshop Elements. in the verison of Picture It that I had it seemed to be limited in what options could be done- you had to chose from one of the preselected options. Not sure if this is true in the latest version or not. EDIT: just checked out the latest version's ad-- this is no longer true. Gives lots of options.

It's OK and very easy to use, but as JB said, most of us have a more complex package with more detailed options. I just hated the sound effects with every click and never could find how to turn it off.

Seems likes it another option for folks. $50 price range according to the ads.

Thanks so far - I'd still be interested in some more comments on it.
With file options for bmp, tiff, png and more, plus the usual jpg and gif of course - and transparency and animation capabilities I just wonder why no-one 'appears' to ever use it - may be there is a secret user core out there really but they just won't admit it :)

Comparing it to what I've discovered so far in PSE2 & PSP I can't yet see any vast difference between them at a basic level - clearly the latter have a lot more compression options, which in the realm of fine tuning will of course make a difference. I did notice too with a little experiment that PiP & MS Office Picture Manager didn't maintain the same image quality after cropping and resizing one particular image (a gif) as PSP & PSE2.

Well, just curious if there is any more sinister reason to steer clear of Microsoft picture editing software (please - this is not a cue for the anti-MS contingents :) )

Maybe, but it was just one instance where there was a quality problem but by and large I've not see many other instances of differenece in actual finished quality, although I've not examined file size issues in any depth
