Boxing Websites - 4/28/2005 10:34:53
Hi there;

In my spare time I design / admin a few of my friends websites.  The are all Pro boxers and I was wondering if you could Critique them for me;

http://www.jamie-moore.co.uk

http://www.stephen-foster-jnr.co.uk

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!!  :)

I like the look and feel of the site with the black background, the other site looks less sophisticated and the text done as graphics (word art?) looks a tad amateurish by comparison, also the font used is not very readable.

The splash page for that site looks very much like a powerpoint presentation which puts me right off it straight away.

Generally I would also lose all the flashing text and marquees IMHO they don't add much to the site and the "irritation factor" is high.

The only other comment is that your choice of light colour text  against dark backgrounds makes parts of the site virtually unreadable including some of the links.

I agree with Donkey on all counts.

I hate Marquees. If you don't get the speed exactly right they drive me nuts and they're not very good for anyone who suffers from epilepsy either.

Site 1

Text is hard to read, I think if you made the text bold it would take care of the problem. The white, normal weight text gets lost on the background. If it were a plain black background this wouldn't be a problem.

The red contact info on the first page at the bottom is hard to read. Red on black can be hard on the eyes if not large enough or done correctly. The background is compounding this strain.

Site navigation is difficult to follow. In general, for a small site like this you should just use one navigation bar. If you are using FrontPage navigation, select Child pages under home and then check Home page. Use this navigation for all your pages. If you need the wider pages for your tables, maybe consider using a horizontal navigation bar at the top?

I too did not like the scrolling marquee.

Site 2

Text is too large for your buttons on the left navigation.
Site navigation is difficult to follow.
Color choice. I kind of thought a pink background for a fighter to be a little odd.
Splash page should not equal home page. Clicking Home takes you back to the Splash page, I wanted to go to the first page with the menu.
I get an odd green background flash of color when changing pages instead of just the bitmap.

Good start, but work on the navigation so you don't have to explain it on each page and loose people because they will just leave the sites.

Thanks for all the comments, guys.

It's very much appreciated.  I'll start to make the changes you suggest.

Cheers!
