<h1> tags - 5/3/2005 9:37:25
At the moment I have, in a table, something like this:

<td><h1>My title</h1></td>

but this makes the cell higher than I want because it adds extra space below the h1 text.

See here for what I mean (the cell is the left hand side of the black bar at the very top of the page)

So... Is the following okay, i.e. is it still recognised by search engines as being a valid h1 tag, or does it completely defeat the object of having the tag?:

<h1><td>My title</td></h1>

Many thanks

kt

I ahve always tackled this by setting spacing via CSS, it works a treat.

Here is an overview/tutuorial...

Your possbile fix that you listed is not valid HTML, I would not use it.

Take care,

Brian

Until you wrap your brain around the overall concept... try something like this:

<h1 style="display: inline;">Title</h1>

That should alleviate any spacing below the title tag.

Thanks both - fantastic help as always.

Bobby - your idea works a treat.   Brian - thanks for the article, I'll have a go at getting my head around it!
