womble -> Quoting for web design (5/5/2005 8:38:37)
|
Well I did my first site (which is currently down as I’m in the midst of changing hosts and transferring my domain name) and I’m now working on version 2 using xhtml/css. I’ve also been asked if I’d like to take over the design for a national health related voluntary organisation that I’m in the process of setting up with others, but this morning I got an email from a friend who works for a voluntary organisation who are wanting to set up a website. They’ve seen my first site and liked it, and my friend’s been asked to look into getting grant funding for the development of a site, and she’s asked me to do a quote for designing and maintaining a site. My problem is, I’ve absolutely no idea how to go about doing a quote, so have a list of questions that I wouldn’t mind you kind folks to comment on for me: Is it usual to charge per page etc. or per hour? How do you charge for maintenance? – per month? per page? per hour? How about SEO? I presume it’s a good idea to get a contract? What would I need to ensure was in it? At the moment all I’ve been told is ‘we want a website and want to know how much it might cost to design and maintain’, so I know I need to find out how many pages we’re talking about, what they mean by ‘maintenance’, if they already have a hosting package – anything else I should ask? Thanks, womble
