FP running real slow - 5/5/2005 16:35:05
I currently use godaddy as a host for one of my websites.  I use FP2003, running on a T1 line and have also used dialup connection.  Whenever I access my page through FP it feels as if I am running with a 14.4 modem.  This only happens on one web site.  (my other web site is on another server and runs fine with the same version of FP).

Support is saying that it could be a corrupt file.  I've deleted and reinstalled FP server extensions, also did a check and repair from the tools>server>administration.

Having a lot of files on this server, can anyone tell me an easy way to find the file that is corrupt or possibly give me other ideas how to correct this problem.  I hate waiting 3-4 minutes for a page to save when I'm so used to a page saving in 3-4 seconds.

Many Thanks in advance.

John,

Making changes directly on server files? Hosted on a Windows 2003 server? More than 50 files in the root directory? If the answer is "yes" to the last two, that's your problem. If the answer to the first one is "yes" ... well, another gotcha :) waiting to happen.

Larry,

You have my curiosity. Do you have a link to a white paper or KB?

Thank you,

Brian

Brian,

Assume you are referring to items 2 and 3 - item 1 is a when, not if, situation.

No KB/White Paper - personal experience when moving a site from a UNIX Server to Windows 2003. Publishing for the later all but stopped until I moved 100 or so project photos to the images subdirectory from the root directory (where they should have been in the first place). UNIX didn't seem to care; Windows 2003 publishing access turned to glue. Moving extraneous files (except Xara headings/banners which have to be in the root directory) fixed the problem:).
