publishing banner links - 5/8/2005 21:33:52
Have not seen this problem discussed.
When I publish my links page with new banners in frontpage and go my website on-line, about 30% of the banners are missing. Only to my eyes though. They are actually there and have been published but I cannot see them or click on that empty space left by a "ghost" banner. When I get into netscape I can see the banner, not in internet explorer.
Everyone else can see the missing banners but me in explorer and netscape. Is this a possible firewall setting problem in explorer, or my firewall software??
This only happens when I link sites with banners and no-where else on my site does this. Happens with jpegs as well as gifs. Links are OK as I can see the banners in netscape
When I look at the html of live on-line webpage the links are completely missing, no script for the missing banner links at all.
It's like my browser had taken them out.

This isn't an Explorer/Netscape problem. Foreign banner "links" are not published per se, only absolute reference contained in code is. In FrontPage, the easiest way to do this is >>Insert>>Web Component>>Advanced Controls>>HTML. Preview will not work - code changes must be published to your host server first.
Here's an example of banner code which will serve a foreign host banner on your site in the space selected using the above work steps:

I forgot to mention one thing.
The banners are being hosted on my server and reside in my computer as well as on my server. These are banners I physically have and have inserted on the web page myself. They are visible to me in preview in frontpage so I know they are there for viewing. Just never on-line in explorer. I can only see them in netscape.
I have about 20-30% that I cannot see. These are all linked correctly and reside in the correct folders I have linked. I just see blank spaces (No red X) where the banners should be.

But are the Banners part of your FrontPage files? Are you hyperlinking rather than inserting code into the <body> section?
Please post your URL so we can have a look at the path statements/code otherwise it's no better than a circular guessing game.

Yes of course the banners are part of my frontpage files. They all reside in folders in my website the same as the rest of the banners that are visible to me. Just I cannot see 30% of them. You will see them all. I believe my browser is Hi-jacking the code and leaving me with blank empty spaces.

let me see if i understand this... you look at the page live and do view/source and the code you see is missing some of what you see locally? perhaps if you post that html here (click the add code tag above) we can compare- as you said, I saw no missing links
