Frontpage 2003 woes - 5/13/2005 13:52:56
well, i dont know whether it is me having a continual blond moment or what, but i am seriously starting to hate frontpage 03. i have recently upgraded from 2000 and i was excited about using my new version. but now i am so fed up with it that i think i am going to need to go back to 2000 in order to get a few things published that 03 just will NOT PUBLISH for some reason. i have lost count of the number of times i have had to completely exit the program and go back in to get it to make the changes. and now that is not even working. i have been trying to update my portfolio and it just will not publish the new pictures. it wont let me insert a search box even though the sharepoint box is ticked. i have to insert a search page as a new page but the second i edit it to customise it, the search doesnt work. i am totally fed up with this now. what should i do? there is an upgrade on the market - should i buy it, will it help? i cant believe i have just paid out all this money, and now i am starting to wish i hadnt. sorry for the rant.

I prefer 2003 to all the previous versions and have never encountered the problems you are having. When you say will not publish are you getting an error or it just does not do anything??

I just upgraded to 2003 from 2002 and I have had virtually no technical problems. Just luck, maybe. I would think that any upgrade available in the stores would be available in the updates available from Microsoft updates online. Here's what I would try: - Download and install all the upgrades, patches, etc. from MS support, if you haven't already.
- If there is still a problem, I would search their knowledge base for similar problems and solutions. I've found answers to weird problems sometimes that way.
- If no answer found/works, and no one here can help you, I would post the problem in the Microsoft FP newsgroup. http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx
I'm not sure what else to suggest, but if it was me, and none of the above worked, I'd be climbing up Microsoft's backside about it. I hope that helps a bit, anyway. Good luck! Starhugger

thanks! i will try install the patches etc as i have not done that yet. when i publish i have tried both ways - publish changes only, publish all and overwrite, i have also tried to just publish that one page but it just wont make the changes. i am not getting any error messages at all. maybe it is something i am doing wrong, but i dont think so. will keep you posted.

Here's another idea. I have a feeling I had that problem once in FP02. I think what I finally did was go ask my website host to reset/delete my current site and then just uploaded from scratch again. This could be a long shot - but when I had trouble publishing it was because my registry got corrupt - To correct the problem, you can open Registry Editor and delete the following Registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Microsoft\Software\FrontPage After you delete that, launch FrontPage and it will recreate the key with the default settings. Pretty cool. I was able to work no problem after doing this.
