Modular CSS - 5/20/2005 11:24:48
Here Is an interesting article that just came into my mail box.

It talks about putting your style sheets into a certain order, and having several of them. Though the same thing could be accomplished in one style sheet with comments. Its a very intersting read for css'ers.

I sort of use this technique on a couple of my sites for differing reasons.

On one in particular that has 3 different themes I have a default structural stylesheet (layouts but no colours, fonts etc) plus a stylesheet per theme that just has colours and fonts and images plus a print stylesheet - a total of 5 stylesheets!

I'm not completely clear on the benefit of using this technique if you have a single style on your site - as it means extra calls to the server and could possibly confusing - but I'm willing to be persuaded (for a chicken wing or a bag of crisps).

roflol!
On a site as such, all you really need to do is divide this up in one style sheet. I already do something similar anyhow. I create my nav rules down from the rest of the styles. I comment the begining of each nav section. So basically you can do the same thing on a smaller site, without having to call in numerous style sheets. Just divy up the one you have now with comments.

Now I try to do that, I really do, but somehow, in the heat of the design panic, I always end up with a colour in my layout sheet and a font-weight in the forms bit.

I really must get more discipline. :):)
