help configuring fp-2003 - 5/24/2005 0:22:09
Hi guys, new and frustrated to frontpage.  I'm trying to create a website with the database wizard where you choose the template(database interface).  Everything is created properly i think, but when I go to view it I get the message - 'to view this page properly, either save or publish. '  Since I'm using asp, I publish it under Inetpub.  Then I choose the index page and file>preview in browser>ie...  Everything is fine and the database index page comes up in the browser, but when I click on any of the links (results.asp, sumission_form.asp, or database_editor.asp) I get the same old thing, that download file dialogue box appears and asks me if I want to open or save the file.  - but all I want is to display the asp pages.

I've published the site under IIS 5.1, shouldn't it display?  I've even reinstalled IIS to try to correctly configure frontpage.  Could I be having some other software conflicts?  I do have dreamweaver, visual studio, and a bunch of other applications installed.  I have no problem creating websites under dreamweaver and visual studio...  Hmmm?:)

Thanks ahead...
Spooky

It may be published under IIS, but are you viewing it via the server too?

To do that, you need to use http://localhost/pagename.asp (rather than c:\)

Thanks spooky! - that's exactly what was going on... F.P. works quite a bit differently than dreamweaver, but I'm really liking it - especially the idea that it works nicely with all of the ms office tools!!!

I'm amazed that the wizard created a database, submission form, and a results page for me with a couple of clicks!!!  Very impressive - thanks again and I'll check out those tutorials/articles listed by your signature!
