Domain Names Question... - 5/24/2005 5:59:05
I have a prospective client who wants a particular one word (an adjective) domain name and i've discovered it's available.

But from talking with him on the phone today i'm not sure of his motivations or expectations regarding this particular domain name. It certainly suits his profession, but i'm thinking that he thinks that just by having this particular word as a domain name, search engines will find him first time every time and that's all he has to worry about in that regard.

It got me wondering though, just how important a catchy word can be in a domain name? Do search engines automatically list a domain name higher if one of the searched words are in the domain name?

e.g. would "www.typing.com" automatically have a better ranking, and appear higher up than another site when "typing lessons" was entered as the search words?

Nicole

It is still relevant. However I do not know how much weight is still given to that aspect. It of course will not give the performance that your client thinks, far from it. I still strive for them myself as all pieces of the puzzle when taken into account helps the collective ranking.

Don't get me started on delimiters in domain names :).

Take care,

Brian
