Site Management Question - 5/25/2005 11:04:08
I have a potential out-of-state client who wants me to re-design their existing site, but he wants to be able to do the minor site modifications and even page additions, on his own.  They currently use Yahoo web-builder and thus are used to doing their own updates.

If they insist on doing their own updates, I'm thinking of suggesting to him that he grab a copy of Frontpage and do the edits through the program.  Is their a better alternative though?

Do any of you have any better suggestions on how an out-of-state client, or any client for that matter, can update their sites on their own?

How do you all handle this when a client says they want to be able to update their own sites?

Thanks!

There are quite a few CMS systems out there such as Mambo - have a look on Hotscripts.com

Only thing is that the ones I've looked at seem fairly complicated - maybe I'm just thick!

With my clients I've actually taught them how to update their sites in xhtml using AceHTML - it's usually only a case of a couple of pages like a news page for instance - so detailed enough instructions should be ok.

Make sure they sign some sort of disclaimer so that if they insist on updating it themselves and  b****r it up they'll have to pay you to sort it out!!

Content Management system. CMS

it allows you to design the site and then effectively lock the design up. The client can log in and change content but not screw up anything else.

There are plenty around. Macromedia's Contribute is good but costs lots. There are also loads of freebies about. Depends on the host and your skills but you could try Content Seed which integrates with FP or Mambo or just google for CMS

I knew I should have hit the submit button a bit quicker. :)
