charity site, tips for traffic - 5/25/2005 14:03:22
Hi,

I just launched a very unusual charitable project that can provide income for single moms, students and others who really need it amongst other things. I would really appreciate some advice on getting the word out to targeted markets, any areas to pursue and what to avoid. I'm not experienced in web marketing and don't want to chase a lot of hype.

Thanks so much

There are many sites and networks of sites that are focused on WAHM (work at home moms).

Search for 'work at home mothers' and similar phrases and you will return many results. Once you find some good looking sites contact them about running ads. Most accept ads (I run many ads on WAHM sites) and they are fairly cheap.

Running ads in student newspapers seems to be a cheap method to drive traffic to your site.

You could run search engine ads for people looking for extra income, but that will cost more and will not be as focused.

Also, don't count on too many people buying into the charity aspect of your venture. Meaning; don't expect free ads. Most site owners have seen many scams and are a jaded lot.

Welcome to OutFront piolilly!!!

I normally query search engines genre+directory+submit. Example results from only Google:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=charity%2Bdirectory%2Bsubmit

Also you can get more specific by genre charity+directory+submit. Just get inventive. ANother query which produced a lot for you was charity+add your site. It gave the following:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=charity%2Badd+your+site

good luck and take care,

Brian

Hi Brian,

I'm sorry, but could you explain a bit more. I'm wandering like a child in the forests of technological knowledge you all seem very comfortable in.

Thanks,

Piolilly

Don't be sorry at all.

What I mean is use common things to help find what you are looking for. Treat my suggestion like you would search for sites that sell, say for example, widgets.

Say I want to buy a red widget with bling. On that example when I go to Google I will put in not only widget but also something that will give me better search results. Example red+widget+bling+buy. Hopefully, depending on Bourbon, I will get highly targeted results for what I want to buy.

Use this same philosophy when searching for sites to submit your sites link to. So with that in mind and what you had in your initial post that is how I came up with the query to Google for you.

Another avenue is look at your competitors. See who is linking to them via link:www.thierdomainname.com. Then just go to those sites and look for the "links" page to submit to.

The more links the more possibility of people finding your sites. It will also help with Google Page Rank.

Take care,

Brian
