Burt Mayfield Insurance - 5/26/2005 17:36:14
Unbelievable, I actually have a customer who is not a Lake Wallenpaupack REALTOR!!!

http://www.burtmayfieldinsurance.com

This is just a temporary page; I didn't bother with CSS for text at this point BUT I do have a DTD, for the benefit of our local DTD Monitor (:):)).

I don't know if they'll even like it...they just said they like the color blue, and they only wanted an email address up there now. He's in the process of revamping his agency and would just like an online contact place right now.

I want to know what you all think of the site - if they don't like it, perhaps another agent will (I may have another agent waiting in the wings; not sure...). How are the colors...does the "feel" of the site evoke confidence, professionalism - without being TOO boring? Insurance agents tend to like their sites as simple as possible; I think this is pretty simple.

Hey! Are you talking about ME!  (Do I get a badge for being DTD Monitor?)

I like the colours - I always do like desaturated colours, much easier on the eye.

I think it has the tone that you want - friendly and professional.

Only points I'd raise currently are that my own personal preference would be for a slightly smaller version of the box as there's a lot of empty space there at the moment.  But if you're using the template again soon it'd just be more work.

I'd look at maybe optimising the images a bit more as it's taking 15.3 seconds on a 56kbps modem - and that's with not a lot on the page...

Only other small thing is that the inner borders have disappeared on Opera 7.11.

Can't actually critique the "site" since it's only the one page but it looks good.:) If there were only one thing I'd fix it would be the size of the header graphic, it eats up a lot of room unnecessarily.

Thanks guys - yes, dearie, you do deserve a badge. :)

I will make the header graphic smaller; it does look out of place. As to the other image - eek, I'm afraid to optimize it much futher or it will start to fall apart. I could try and chop it up into four images instead of two, and with a smaller header, that should help some.

As to the "site" - the other pages won't be anything too fancy - probably a form, and a few pages of rates, links to insurance company pages which will be VERY different since they'll be different sites...basically, the rest of the site will be very mundane; this will be the main page with any visual interest.

Hi Karen,

It's a nice page, I agree with the other comments so far too.

I agree with the size of the heading being too large, in fact the font reminded me of movie posters with the actors names like "Starring" Burt Mayfield ...

The other question i had was about the different widths of the images. It's only a minor point but the family pic is very large compared to the small pic of the car and house, wondered if that was appropriate really as he may deal more in car and house insurance? Only you know this i guess....maybe he deals more in life insurance! The pictures are nice and bright, but i also wondered if you'd tried fading them just a bit to see what they look like compared to the other desaturated colours used as Tailslide has mentioned.

Anyway, it looks good so far assuming times new roman will go lol, and you'll fill up a lot of the empty space with things.

Nicole.

p.s. I'd certainly be keeping it as a template if this guy doesn't like it, it has potential in any "serious" kind of industry, finance, medical, consultancy....

ACH@@@ Times new roman! I forgot to declare the font; I have FP set to "default" to verdana as is my broswer....I can't beleive I didn't make SURE it was verdana. I hate times new roman!!!

as to the images below - I was just too lazy to resize them different, lol. If they like it and want to go with it then I'll mess around with it more.

I've changed the header, too....better?

Looks good, freed up a lot of room for other things now.

I couldn't stand it any more; the thought of Times New Roman on my page made me wanna puke...lol. I ONLY like it on SOME sites for headings and titles, adn that's about it. I made the style sheet for the text.

I've had some complain that it's too wide - because I made the table fluid, those viewing it on higher resolutions will naturally see more blank space than our 800 x 600 friends...but the last time I designed a site to be static at 750 px wide the owner complained that it didn't "fill the page".

oy, vey...can you ever win? LOL
