I really like this new offering from Yahoo!. It is still in development, but I really dig it...

What is Mindset?
quote:

It allows you to sort search results for your query into commercial or non-commercial (informational) results, based on whether you're shopping or seeking information.

Run a search and then play with the slider. Go from pure shopping sites to pure research sites and a wide range in between.

Yahoo Mindset

That is a very good idea. Glad to see Yahoo starting to compete a bit with Google. Seems like Google has pretty much taken over the market Yahoo once had.

Hopefully this will work a little bit better, and make it easier to sort results based on location as well, I noticed that most results were in the UK.

Interesting to see a bit more lateral thinking into what the user wants to see.
Pretty quick too, although havent tested if for relevant answers yet

Pretty cool. Tried with a couple searches and seemed to do okay. Thanks!

I think this is cool but think about SEO/SEM clients. Depending on where the slider is set it will give different results (Duh brian [8|]). Now really take a second... how can we state where they are at in the SERPS when giving the client reports on a monthly basis.

OK, client A yes you are correct in that your site appeared lower than what I stated. however move the slider 1.5 inches to the left and review the results again [&o].

I really think this is cool, don't get me wrong but I see issues like the above.

Take care,

Brian

Multiple sites.
Many (most?) of the big players in competitive fields have more than one site supporting their business model. It is very common to find the e-com site, several info sites, a hybreed site or two and many dozen natural looking sites such as blogs and ISP personal accounts that provide a support structure.

I was giving my ideas on your question/statement.

With a sliding scale you just run multiple sites and funnel traffic.

Gotcha, a little thick on my end.

Take care,

Brian
