RealPlayer - 6/1/2005 9:18:56
Is there anyway to download just a basic version of realplayer without it dragging the operating system down. Seems like every time I've installed realplayer problems have followed.

Thanks!
Rich

What are the problems you get Rich? When I install it, I usually remove it from the start up menu, and make sure it's not associated with anything but realplayer files

It makes other windows applications run slow. Thought I was crazy but our NA said the same thing. He advised not to use it.

I like my local National Public Radio station and thats what they require you use.

Thanks!
Rich

I've never had problems with the freebee version... though it does like to sneak into the startup menu.  My scotty dog (Winpatrol) was always catching it trying to get in there.

I've not had any problems with it since I moved to XP Pro and only installed the Firefox plug-in. I did rein it right back on install. I wouldn't let it install in Program Files, gave it a separate folder elsewhere, only allowed it to open ram and rm files and refused to let it put icons anywhere, including start-up.

You could dump Real altogether and get a replacement like Jet Audio (free version):

or Real Alternative:

Thanks, Kitka. Since I'm not Real Player (anything that takes it I don't view) user, I'm gonna download one of these instead. Real player takes over too much on my systems for my liking. One of these you suggest should be just fine. Thanks!
