Getting your site to validate isn't just about the straight fact that it validates - it's about understanding why valid code is better than invalid code. If you absolutely can't do without a particular thing on your site and you cannot get it to validate after considerable research - and you understand the implications of what might happen if you stick with that particular peice of invalid code - then stick with it. The point is really understanding the code. If you don't then you're better off going for 100% validation as a safeguard.
