Very large web sites - 6/7/2001 21:08:00
I am planning a new site in 2 parts, 2 different domains. One will be a searchable database directory of businesses. However, in the other one we plan to organize the directory by cities and states, countries. This could mean several thousand pages eventually. My concern is the posting procedure since we are located rurally and on a great day our connections is 28.8 all day. So, how do I pare down a large site into groups of pages so that I can publish each group separately as needed instead of one big monster. Subwebs? Or is there another strategy? Appreciate your kind help.

<big gulp> Thousands of pages? If I'm not mistaken, I believe having a database driven site would be your answer. Sandy ------------------ Stu Reilly Design Allegheny Web Dreamweaver Sites

Sandy's right. You will probably want to write a very few HTML pages and have all the data (Biz names, addresses, phone numbers, etc) reside in a database and have the requested pages written on the fly by a script. You might take a look at Cold Fusion, this type of site is what it is really great for.------------------ Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our speciality "Is there another word for synonym?"
