24,000 files equals 48,000 on host? - 6/11/2005 7:58:06
I am using 16% of 2000 MB but host ipower says I have reached my limit of 49,000+ files. My FP site stats show 24,000+ A) Is this normal that every FP file creates an additional file on the host server? plus some? (or for that matter all editors - do all web files do this) B) Since I cannot find any info on MAX # of files as criteria for service is this normal for hosts to do and not let customers know up front? C) 2000 MB is a big space. How could this space be filled with only 50,000 (publishable size) files? Something seems fishy.

A) FP creates a lot of files on the server, that you might not notice on your own hard drive. B) It is normal for hosts who sell a lot of space and bandwidth at really low prices. C) That's the reason why they sell it so cheap, hoping nobody will take up the space. When you take up the space you run into the max files, but if you don't run into that, they might complain that you are using too many server resources. Either way, they will limit people somehow. You can't be on a server with 2,000 accounts, all using up 2GB of space- it just won't work. IPW is a good deal for lots of space/bw, they have to be able to afford this deal, and by having these restrictions they can afford it.
