Tax issue for getting paid for a website - 6/14/2005 0:20:39
Help me here please. Can anybody tell me what a person has to do to declare the income of making a webpage for a not-for-profit organization. I have done a few webpages and have been asked to make one for this organization...they insist on having me give them a bid sheet and everything so they can pay me. Is this legal for me to do this without claimiing as income? Thanks for any advice.

quote:
I've developed a website for a not for profit organisation and I'm currently working on version 2. Because of the complications of them paying me for my work and tax issues, they're 'paying' me in the form of purchasing any books or software I need (I'm on the committee of the group anyway) and consumables like ink cartridges, becuase I'm using them in the process of developing their website. In the US. if you had the arrangement above, you could also claim things like mileage as a "charitable deduction". By and large, at least in the US, if you receive income, you must report it on your tax return (Schedule C) which also opens the doors for you to claim expenses and on paper it can often wash out while you are still small. remember, they couldnt get al capone for murder but they could for income tax evasion.
