Username/Password Promt on Download??? - 6/13/2001 20:13:00
I know this is an old chestnut, but for the life of me, I can't remember how to fix it and can't find anything here via search, either.I have documents on a site. When the link to DL them is clicked, I get that "Enter Network Password" dialog box with username and password fields. Clicking "cancel" on the pop-up box clears it and the document will download. How do I fix it? This is beginning to get annoying --Bri ------------------ "Bother," said Pooh, as Piglet was assimilated by the Borg. ------------------- Work, work, work: http://www.appercept.co.uk Out of office hours: http://www.darlingbri.co.uk

Gorilla pointed out an easy fix ( day or two ago) for most folks who have this problem with Word docs. Just save as rtf. That kills two birds with one stone. You don't get the password boxes, and you don't have to worry about folks using a different word processor. I went ahead and added that to the FAQ entry on that issue.

Actually, the RTF is not related to the username/password question. All the documents on this site are RTF and up pops the password box for most visitors.Gorilla's point was merely that it makes it easier for everyone to read: rtf is more portable than .doc Rian, thanks, but that sucks. That's not really a solution is it? "Our server environment is screwed, so everyone please install a service pack..." Sheesh. I know it's not your fualt - I appreciate the link
