I am at the forward lookup zones in the DNS - I have Highlighted URL1 - the settings are such that I am reaching URL2 bring up URL2's domain name now. What and where would I make the entries to bring up URL1 on FP Hosts web server - Would this possibly be entered at the "New Alias" CName when I right click? and what should I enter? Example are always appreciated. Thanking you in advance, DavidO

Who is your registrar? It depends on them and their features. Or are you using your own DNS server?

My website is hosted by bCental.com. I am using my own DNS server to redirect (point) some of my my domains to my web hosted by them. I haven't been able to set up my own MS2000 server to serve my own webs reliably. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated Thanking you in advance DavidO

Doing it on your own DNS server is ABSOLUTELY NOT a trivial task and unless you have a *very* firm grasp of how DNS works, I wouldn't point you in that direction. However, I see 2 far easier options: 1. A simple redirect mentioned in the link I referenced above. EIther thru ASP Response.redirect or a Meta refresh. 2. A forward and mask by your domain registrar (not your DNS service). This is by far the preferred way to go. Now I'm not talking about your host unless they too are the ones that manage your domain name. I'd suggest checking with whoever you pay for your "domainname.com".

Now that I have succeeded in redirecting / pointing by means of an alias thru my host URL1 to URL2 subfolder content - I now realize that I am unable to request URL1.com as opposed to URL1.com/products.asp Is there a way to program the request for the domain URL1 so as not to ask for the subfolder and you are just taken there by requesting URL1 / domain name. I don't want to have to work with two separate access databases that have pretty much the same content and rely on the same information and updates. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated Thanking you in advance - DavidO

If I understand the question correctly, again try your registrar. That's where I do all that for mine. Who is your registrar for your domains?

Web forwarding w/mask is working - mail is not working Using Networksolutions web forwarding w/mask in account manager is working even better than I had hoped - an additional benefit is if you are using session id in the location bar the session id is no longer visible - just the domain name. I am not sure how the mail should be set up. If I use my old domain name to send mail it works fine, if I substitute my new forwarded masked domain name it doesn't. How do I get the mail to work with my new masked domain name? - settings? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thanking you in advance - DavidO

quote:
How do I get the mail to work with my new masked domain name? IIRC that is a 2-step process. First, you'll need your registrar to do the same forward/mask idea with your MX records. If you're not sure what that is, your ISP/registrar will know. Secondly, the mail users will have to be setup to allow "alias" addresses. That would have to be done at the mail server wherever that is hosted. Many mail servers will allow duplicate domains (or alias accounts) for each user so that they'll accept mail to: joeuser@mydomain.com joeuser@mySecondDomain.com They can be done but it's not quite as easy as the web sites. If these things are hosted, check with your host for options. Note: Be sure to have any applicable PTR records (reverse DNS lookups) fixed or added or you may have problems sending to some domains (AOL is one that you'll probably have issues if you don't have proper PTR records).
