Password pop-ups and missing CSS - 6/18/2005 9:51:37
Hi. This is my first forum, so please be gentle. My problem: I tried publishing ( via http )my second website ( http://www.greattreeapartments.com ). I use FP 2003 and have includes pages and an external CSS page. The website works perfectly on my local browser. When i view on the web, I get pop-ups asking for my server username and password. I can cancel them and my index page will render. However, when I try to navigate to other pages, the same pop-up appears which I can cancel and the new page will render. Also. none of my CSS page ( which works just fine locally ) will show up. I contacted my host who had no idea and suggested a forum. Can someone help me ?

Welcome to Outfront - dont concern yoursef with "treat me gentle" - this forum is the ONE place on the net where "newbies" are never riduculed or treated harshly - personally, its the main reason I hang around. I dont know the soultion but... be aware that the forum is real slow on weekends so if you dont get an answer, be patient

Thanks for the response. I am at work (Saturday ! ) and can't post the code until I get home tonight. I'll check the tags before I post. Thanx again.

Get your css file and all of your other includes out of the _private folder. Create a folder called includes and put all your includes into it. The _private folder has a different set of permissions. This is likely the cause of your problems.

and dont move these files with windows explorer or anything like that - open the web in front page and move files there so that fp can redo all the links automatically!!!!! one more thing..open the local version in fp, move the files - then republish - that way your local version and live version are in synch

Success !! I made folders "includes" and "css" and transfered the appropriate files into each and everything works. I also cleaned up the closing html tag. I still have a lot of work to do ( meta descriptions and keywords, adding content, etc ) but at least the structure works. I hope that I can gain enough knowledge to help someone else as you folks have helped me. Thank you.
