Does anyone have a recommendation for web hosting service offering Windows servers. Preferably US based company.

I like, use, and recommend parcom.net If you search in these forums you will find some others that folks recommend too.

Are you looking for reseller hosting?

What are your requirements? Space/BW/Price/Support etc

Everyone will have an opinion on what a good host is - we use Appliedi.net for our windows hosting.

As bobbyd mentions - it may depend on your needs

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Sorry I didn't reply very quickly.. way too many projects at one time and this is one of them. I don't need a resellers account since I have one of those in the *nix flavor. This particular client (farwest.org) is spread out all over the western US and they need a windows based server because they want web conferencing which requires a somewhat high bandwidth. I'm barely familiar with windows hosting so I thought I would ask you folks who are.

Windows hosting is more expensive than Unix hosting simply because of the licensing involved for the software. If you are picking a windows host simply because the site requires high bandwidth, I would think again. There are many other unix/linux hosts that can give you a far better deal.

It's because of the vendor that is offering the Web conferencing app. It's a Windows server app. If there are *nix alternatives I would appreciate knowing who offers those.

Bear in mind if anything has to go to the system folder of the server most shared account hosts will deny your request. Your best bet would be a dedicated server or a co-lo (co located). Going from memory for a Windows server for this setup, when I researched it for a client of mine, I found around $99 US was the going rate for a stable server with a stable host that offered high bandwith sites.

You'll definitely want to ensure you have enough allotted bandwidth. Some hosts will list unlimited but I would be wary as when things peak and push comes to shove most are not unlimited.

Take care,

Brian

Do you know what the name of the app is and the requirements for it to run?

You should be able to find a decent host that can provide you with enough bandwidth for $100-$150/mo. I would take a look at webhostingtalk.com and see if there are any specials right now. Be sure to ask if their server can support your software!

Also, a Virtual Private Server might be another option for you. You basically share a server with 6-10 people and are given a guaranteed amount of server resources, and the ability to use all the ram/cpu if it is not being use.
