No downloads after Java JRE upgrade - 6/29/2005 9:36:01
I developed a web site on a laptop and published it from there. I transferred the site files to my desktop and when reviewing the site, was notified by FP that some code in the site needed a Java JRE upgrade to display properly. I dutifully downloaded the update (hours on dial-up), applied it, and the code now displays properly on the desktop. My problem now is that when I want to download a file, the download manager does not start and allow me to choose a download location. It appears that the download just starts (I get a "Transferring data from ........" message) and after the download has had time to complete, I cannot find the desired file on my computer. Any assistance would greatly appreciated.

Hi Calum, Thanks for the response. I primarily use Netscape but I have tried both Netscape and IE and can get neither to actually perform a download. I have tried about a dozen sites as well as trying to save attachments to e-mails and none seem to allow a download. Any help would be appreciated, Charles

Hi Spooky, Thanks for the interest. The download manager is an app in Windows that, when you have requested a download from a remote site, pops up with a 'Save As' window to allow you to tell it where to save the download and then provides progress information to you as the download proceeds. Usually this appears when you click on the 'Download Now' link, but in my case, it doesn't appear, therefore, Windows doesn't actually perform the download and I usually waste several minutes expecting the download to complete and it does not.
