It is a pale yellow colour on my computer by default. I can change it locally by going to Display > Properties > Appearance and changing the Tool Tip background, but I want to change it only in this web site to fit in with the colour scheme, so everyone sees the new colour. If it can't be changed using CSS, is there some other way of showing popup text descriptions for an image without resorting to javascript? _____________________________ Kitka It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious.

See this for more information: http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/html/altshow.html However, there are alternatives out there for custom tooltips, some that use solely CSS. As you mention, I have already discovered that IE doesn't recognise the pseudo classes except when it is a link. I have started to look at JS which I really wished to avoid if possible. quote: which is a JS tooltip (on steroids!) Spot on! Although it is spoiled a bit by the ALT text overlaying it. I think I'll end up combining a couple of scripts to get the effect and detail I want. It's even better than Tool tips as it stays put till you move the mouse away.
