saralairdmcmahon -> Forms Problem (7/1/2005 15:35:12)

The following text shows up on my published form:[FrontPage Save Results Component]
It was working fine (text above was hidden) the last few times I published the site so I guess I messed something up.
You can check out the exact page at:
http://www.austineds.com/Membership%20Application.htm

I actually asked about this before with another site I was working on www.halfknots.com and ya'll referred me back to my Host, which seems logical but it was pointless...they sent me a form letter three days later that wasn't helpful and then asked "was this reply helpful"!! [:@] BUT you guys are awesome and if you know how I might be able to take the bull by the horns on this one...that would be awesome.

bobby -> RE: Forms Problem (7/1/2005 15:57:49)

typically that text shows up when there is a problem with the Frontpage Server Extensions... which unfortunately is handled by your host.

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/1/2005 15:59:55)

Thanks anyway. So I need to just tell them to fix it, or do I have to say something specific to get it done? [>:]

dpf -> RE: Forms Problem (7/1/2005 16:03:14)

usually they have to reinstall the extensions - happens a lot if you update via ftp instead of using FP's "publish" function.

bobby -> RE: Forms Problem (7/1/2005 16:04:48)

Let them know that you're seeing a server extension related error on your page and ask them to restart the server and/or double check that the FPSE's are installed and configured properly...

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/2/2005 13:00:12)

Thanks, that is helpful!![:)]

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/2/2005 13:00:51)

Thank you very much- I will have the ability to be more forward with them now! [:D]

AMysticWeb -> RE: Forms Problem (7/5/2005 22:47:12)

Hi Sara,

Your form properties look ok to me and from the looks of the source, the extensions seem to be there in some capacity.

Just curious. You are sending to formrslt.htm in the _private folder. Did you create this page and place it there? If not, then you would need to do so. If it is in place, try changing the file format to see if this makes a difference, for instance something like Formatted text within HTML.

Maybe try sending to a simple text file (Formatted text) If you might be able to browse to one in the _private folder.

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/8/2005 17:45:05)

Thanks for the idea. Do you mean making the results display differently? I think right now I have it set to send formatted text results to both my e-mail and the private folder which I have to view on my host's site. I don't understand how to make the results go anywhere else, and this may not even be what you are talking about sorry.
[:o]

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/8/2005 17:47:38)

It is still there! When I finally sent a frustrated e-mail to them...My host sent me this e-mail response:
"We went ahead and reinstalled the extenstions on your end from your cpanel login, and server side. From your cPanel login, you have the Frontpage extenstion option, and can reinstall them at will. If the problem has not been resolved, please send us a screenshot of your connection settings from the Frontpage program."
It is still there after republishing after getting this message:
Do you know what she would be referring to by the connection settings in FrontPage."
Thank you Kindly!

supergravi -> RE: Forms Problem (7/8/2005 21:46:31)

I have created a form in Frontpage. The form emails fine through everything except through AOL - when the message comes up to send, it is blank. Any ideas?

AMysticWeb -> RE: Forms Problem (7/9/2005 3:47:52)

SuperGravi,

My first suggestion would be to start your own post rather than joining this one with a question. With a new post, more people will see your question. As to AOL mail, it isn't compatible with formmail. You can forward formmail to AOL mail, but don't use it as a destination.

Sara,

It still looks like the extensions are there. Try sending to a .txt file in _private to see if this makes a difference. Set this for Formatted Text.

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/12/2005 13:05:55)

I am still really confused about this folder thing and my host is not helping me at all.

You said "Try sending to a .txt file in _private"
If I set the form to report in "formatted text" will it create the doc in my private folder, which I will only be able to view through my Control Panel at Host?

I am glad this is a beginner's forum, because I feel like I a burden. thanks for your help. [&o]
-Sara

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/12/2005 13:56:35)

This is so confusing and I fear it will go on forever. I was able to get results from this page ONCE. I don't remember my settings and I was actually surprised it worked. I am still utterly confused...sad, I know. [:(]
You said (regarding _private/formslt.html):
quote:

Did you create this page and place it there? If not, then you would need to do so.

This page (formrslt.htm) created itself and I don't even know when or how. You suggested
quote:

Maybe try sending to a simple text file (Formatted text) If you might be able to browse to one in the _private folder.

What do you mean by browse to one in _private? The only folder I have in my _private folder is the formslt.htm and I can't figure out how to make anything else - any other files that would capture (formatted text). I can create filed all day long in my Control Panel but that doesn't help the situation.

When this all worked that one magical time (over a month ago), I can see that it created this File in _private on my control panel:
http://www.austineds.com/_private/.wysywigPro_edit_formrslt_htm.php

I am so confused and frustrated.[sm=bowdown.gif]

AMysticWeb -> RE: Forms Problem (7/12/2005 19:10:21)

If you don't have a text file in _private, open a blank Notepad, do a Save As, name it something like form_results (no spaces) then use browse to direct the save to the _private folder in this web.

The idea of saving a file to _private is to have a backup for the email results. In order to view these results, you would need to open the site live and then open the _private folder.

Once you do this, republish via FrontPage "Publish Web" to http

This type of file is created to be stored in your web, not the site CP.

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/13/2005 9:01:47)

That is so clearly helpful. I will work on it and see if it helps with the problem at hand. [:)]

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/14/2005 18:12:10)

Thank you for your help with this!!

Can you tell me...What do you mean by "live" below?

AMysticWeb -> RE: Forms Problem (7/16/2005 4:03:45)

Well, since I didn't know forums like this existed when FrontPage was walloping me, I do things the long way sometimes.

I would open FP, go to File >> Open. This will pull up the Open file screen. I then type the name of the site. http://widgets.com in the textbox normally reserved for the name of the page you open.

It can take a while for this to open, so be patient. Then you should be able to click on the _private folder and subsequently the file in question.

Many users edit their site via this method. Some only use this method.

You can make additions to pages as well.

Be careful, however, because in order to keep the current version in your local file, you would then go to File >> Publish Web" and use Browse to locate your local web so you can publish down to it.

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/17/2005 14:01:05)

Thank you for getting back to me on this one!

That sounds simple enough. One more quick question...
When you say:

quote:

You can make additions to pages as well.

Be careful, however, because in order to keep the current version in your local file, you would then go to File >> Publish Web" and use Browse to locate your local web so you can publish down to it.

Do you mean this would be the way to save it in my local file and when I choose the publish site- I would need to choose the local web folder instead of the http...?

Sorry if these seem like simple questions- but I have a hard time seeing the big picture sometimes. [sm=icon_redface.gif]

AMysticWeb -> RE: Forms Problem (7/18/2005 3:38:57)

No problem!

You have a local site and a remote site. If you change the local site and republish, then the two are the same.

If you open the site live and make changes, then I feel it is best to publish down to file each time, to update your local web so it matches the remote web.

Otherwise, when you make changes on the local web, you might ovcerwrite changes you made with the live edit.

Maybe someone can give a clearer description of this. I am notoriously long winded and long worded.

saralairdmcmahon -> RE: Forms Problem (7/18/2005 8:29:45)

I think it makes sense! Thank you very much.
[:)]

dpf -> RE: Forms Problem (7/18/2005 9:29:27)

I dont know about you but when Imake changes, there is a trial and error element to it -- triedthis..oops, that didnt work, lets try this etc etc until I get it correct. If you do this "live",a visitor could come to your sight and see the errors. therefore, I never, ever edit live. I edit locally until it is correct, then publish - that way both are in synch. FWIW

AMysticWeb -> RE: Forms Problem (7/18/2005 13:24:04)

Dan,

I rarely use this option myself. I don't really recommend it either. Was just trying to explain myelf.
