Webcam - 6/21/2001 18:38:00
Hi all,A client of mine would like to add a webcam to stream video to their web page. I have no experience whatsoever with webcams. I'm looking for information from anyone that is running a webcam through a website and also recommendations on actual webcams etc.. Anything at all! Thanks!

When you say "to their web site", from where/ Is the web cam location located the same place as the server? If not, what kind of connection do they have to the server? T1? T3? quote:

I'm not at the moment, but have in the past. quote:

About any cam with at least a 640 X 480 resolution will do - unless you need a "low light" or some other unusual requirement. ------------------ Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our speciality "Is there another word for synonym?"

Do-able? Yeah, but less than a T1 is going make it "lag" (IMHO). We had a web cam looking at the support desk in my ISP,. running on a dedicated box directly on the router to a DS3 and when traffic got heavy it would lag.------------------ Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our speciality "Is there another word for synonym?"

I hate days like this...when my not-for-profit gave me a "how can we do this" list. The team is geographically dispersed and would like to connect remote sites for some type of "live" conferencing. To compound it...one location is behind a firewall and one is not. They thought perhaps they could handshake through the webpage...one hosting and the others viewing. Someone told me you can create a page that would source a webcam, but I would think there would be performance issues. I have a firewire card and digital videocam...and wondered if there is a way to do connect via website, or figure out how to make it work with Netmeeting. AAAAAARRRGGHH and of course they want it secure. The need here is to provide training without 5 hours travel each way. Anyone have experience in this realm?
