Anyone have suggestions where I could find a good prism2 chipset wireless networking card for my desktop computer?

Linux boxen?

[:D]

There's a list of manufacturers and models on this page:

You may have to order over the Net... since most retailers don't carry them.

Playing around with Knoppix -_-

I found a bunch of cards, but like half are no longer available, some you can't find, and there are very few reviews. Mainly looking for one that can do monitor mode and injections.

Try downloading SimplyMepis... I've tried their live CD in two laptops and wifi worked on both (at 802.11 b). One was a Sony, the other was a Toshiba (I think... might have been an HP)

It's a hacked version of Debian/Knoppix (with a much easier installation routine if you decide to go that route)

It also comes preloaded with the latest Nvidia drivers, RealPlayer, etc which is nice too [;)]

... actually, if you're looking to play with "network security" I'd recommend looking at PHLAK

http://www.phlak.org/modules/news/

I'm not sure how it plays with wifi out of the box, but it's designed for "testing" your network.... [;)]

You might also hit http://www.google.com/linux and search for current cards that offer native Linux support... something like these (2004)

I already have the OS on cd. It is just that the IPW2200 drivers do not seem to work well in linux (the card my laptop uses). The system is built around Knoppix with all the goodies inside. I can do a hard drive install instead of the CD, but it would take awhile for it to build and be configured.

Mainly I am just looking for the card, and not the software. The cards on linuxelectrons show details that say it runs on XP. Where does it list its chipset?

I'm gong to check out the card: WMP11 as it looks like it might work for me.

what version of Knoppix?

v3.8.1 should support your chipset.

Knoppix rocks... it was actually my third experience with Linux and blew me away.

I was never patient enough to go through a install with it though. SUSE and Mandrake were so much easier to get rolling on a hard drive. I haven't used Knoppix since 3.4x
