womble -> IntrusionAlarmS4 - not sure if I have a problem or not (7/12/2005 4:39:48)

I'm not sure if I've got a problem or not. I did have a problem with a virus and some cookies last week, most of which I think were tracking cookies - now all cleaned up.

Now I'm getting what looks to be a minimised program on the taskbar every day when Windows first opens. It says IntrusionAlarmS4 on it and only gives the option to move, close, or 'About IntrusionAlarmS4' (which brings up a window that just says "IntrusionAlarmS4 Version 1.0 Copyright (C) 2003"

I Google searched for it and came up with nothing, checked out Win XP's help and support, and M$'s knowledge base, and nothing!

After learning my lesson the hard way last week relying on IE and NAV, I now use FF for surfing, have NAV, AVG and AVG Firewall and AdAware. All of them are coming up with nothing.

Any ideas? Is this something I should be worried about and how do I get rid of it?

Hi Womble,

I've just Googled it also and come up with nothing. Even those words separated by a space in inverted commas returns nothing in google. Is there any chance you can take a screen shot of it?

Nicole

Try this........

That confirms it. I found a forum post on Teoma about the problem. Something preinstalled on your pc by the supplier.

Thanks to all of you. [:)] At least it's not something nasty. I can't work out what's suddenly triggered it though, and I definitely haven't had the cover off recently. Won't let me delete it, but I suppose as long as it just sits there and doesn't get in my way it can stay.

After last week's experience though it's also prompted me to install Spybot Search and Destroy which has come up with another load of naughty cookies etc. Also must have a word with Great Uncle B about his cleaning routine lol.

Now need to finish configuring my new firewall properly so it might stop asking me what I want it to do every 5 minutes, but like they say, better to be safe than sorry...and of course, just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean that everyone's not out to get you. [;)]

Probably the latest Win updates.

It could be that loading your new firewall has triggered it. The usual advice when using something like ZoneAlarm, Kerio and other firewalls is to disable the resident firewall that comes with WinXP. I use Win2K so cannot be sure about that. With Kerio I have to train it in use so that it doesn't block my useful stuff like uploading to my web host. So yes, you have to put up with it asking what to do every so often, like a guard dog[;)]

PS. NAV is the spawn of the devil, but that is another story

I just hope it's not quite as dumb and difficult to train as my dog who's 9 in September but still acts like a puppy and still attacks the post every morning when it comes through the letter-box! [;)]
