Changes made, look again please! - 7/13/2005 18:52:42
OK, so I made some changes to my site. I made sure that everything is in the default font and is based on the theme of the site. I made sure the pages aren't going on forever at the end. And I took out a lot of the color I originally had on it. I still haven't figured out how to get it to work exactly in firefox or netscape. That's next. But please take a look and let me know if it is starting to look better. Oh- and all links should be working now. I'd appreciate a second look! Mortgage Vendor Network

Hi again I'm afraid the problems raised in the original thread pretty much still apply. I'm trying to balance being helpful and contructive against being realistic - if you get this wrong then your business will suffer. It's not a personal site where it doesn't matter if it's not professional-looking. Here's a couple of links to Mortgage related companies that I googled in about 2 minutes. They're not exactly the same line as your business - that doesn't really matter. freddiemac.com/multifamily http://www.napmw.org/ www.genworth.com - this is my personal favourite because it uses CSS for layout! They're all nice looking, crisp, clean sites. None of them are particularly complicated in construction. All of them give the air of being professional. These sites might not be exactly the same business as yours but what matters is they might well be the type of sites that your potential clients will be looking at and will definitely be the sort of level of finish they'll expect. If you really want to do this yourself then I'd suggest finding a template, adding a bit of stock photography - smiling professional types outside pretty houses - you know the sort of thing. Get rid of the marquee scrolling thing. Not too keen on the waving flag either - if you want a flag then have a small static one in one corner. You have to be careful with stuff that moves on websites - unless it's high quality flash animation it can look amateurish. From the info you've got on your site I'd go for a three-column style template - stick your links in the left-hand column (your links currently do not all fit in the grey buttons) - that way you can easily add more. Your main content is obviously in the main central column and the ads can go in the right column. Check with the W3C validator as you go along to ensure your code is valid and check it in Firefox rather than IE - it's easier to fix it for IE than the other way round. Keep it crisp and simple and you'll do fine. Producing a slick professional-looking site at your first attempt at website building is a huge task. There are lots of people on this forum that design sites for a living - any of them who say they produced something stunning for their first site is a big liar!
