Firefox Cookie Preference Settings - 7/15/2005 20:31:12
I've recently converted from IE to Firefox for all my Internet browsing, and have also determined that most if not all of the alerts I was getting with Spybot Search & Destroy were from Cookies. I need some cookies to work obviously, for this site, Webshots etc but others i thought i'd disable using the Firefox/Tools/Options/Privacy/Cookies settings.

I thought i'd firstly disable all cookies and then allow them as i needed them using the "Allow sites to set Cookies", "from originating site only" and "ask me every time" options in Firefox.

I've then by chance followed a link from a message in a thread at this board which was about to set a cookie, but i chose not to, thus I know my settings are working. But.....

Webshots just refuses to log me in, the same for an internet betting site i've been using for ever and a day. These are the only 2 sites i use reasonably regularly that i've identified problems with so far, but was wondering if anyone has had this happen to them or knows why these 2 sites aren't allowing me to log in, and therefore not asking me whether i'd like to allow cookies from those sites?

Thanks in advance.

Nicole

Edit:It seems paypal is another site which is denying my login with the current Firefox settings. I can access alll of these sites in IE still, but that's defeating the purpose I think.

I always accept cookies, but run Spybot S&D to remove the bad ones. I haven't ran across any cookie that is actually harmful, I don't think you will ever find one that is.

You will run into a LOT of problems when you disable cookies. Too many websites require cookies to function.

Hi Bobby,

I agree with you, but now also can't seem to enable cookies again.

the sites are probably requesting the cookie info when they send the first page down to your browser - if no cookie, ni log in - you may have to reregister. remember, cookies are only text files and cannot include any executable code

After spending a lot of time searching online, i've fixed the problem and may also have an answer for Duane's question here

Cookies were still working in IE and because of my actions they weren't in Firefox, the Mozillazine suggested the following:

That has fixed the problem I wrote about here, and from now I think i'll be doing as BobbyD suggested and just accepting all cookies and cleaning the unwanted ones out each time I run a Spybot Search & Destroy.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

Nicole
