sophistikatied -> Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 14:05:16)

I have tried to use the Database wizard like it showed on the tutorials in here, but have obviously done something wrong. It won't display the pages in the browser and I can't figure out how to enter data into the database.

I also tried to create a database from Access and then import to FP, but again had no success....

What am I missing??

did you publish it to a server? it wont work locally unless you have xp pro, IIS and use http:localhost

sophistikatied -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 14:19:48)

I have tried publishing it to the server.... I'm working on IIS and http:localhost... I'm working on Windows XP... is there a difference between that an XP pro? I'm so confused about how to get the database to work!

bobby -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 14:24:17)

XP Pro comes with IIS (server) while Home does not.

Publish your web to C:/Inetpub/WWWRoot/NewWebName and see if that works. (That's the file where localhost looks for websites.)

sophistikatied -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 14:30:40)

Do I need to publish it to C: on my machine or on the server? Sorry if these are dumb questions, I just have very limited experience working with servers, IIS, databases, etc! It's so confusing!

you can do either...
if you have xp pro and iis, publish it as bobby said above and then call it with local host
if you publish to your web server, you call it with your domain name etc

If its going to be used on your host - then you need to be sure your host has a Windows based server running IIS

sophistikatied -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 15:00:05)

Ok- I have tried that and still have no success. I have added a new page, used the Web Package solutions, Database Interface Wizard, used the pre-selected the options (except pwd protection), published to http:localhost and am coming up with an Error Message when I try to view the pages.

Is there some stage I'm skipping?

sophistikatied -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 15:13:20)

I guess I'm confused because the site is hosted off of one of the servers at my workplace... but I don't really know much about servers except that this one does run IIS, has the FP extensions installed and it's running Windows Server 2003. Is there anything else I would need to do on the server side of things?

Spooky -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 15:17:35)

With frontpage - can you open your site live?
eg file > open web > http:// your address

dpf -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 15:17:51)

what error message are u getting? do you have friendly error messages turned off? Tools/Internet Options/Advanced..about the 18th option down "uncheck it"

sophistikatied -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 16:26:02)

I can open the site live in FP.... when i go to mysite/database it pulls up the Database Interface page with Results Page and Submission Form links. However, if I click on either one, it goes to a .asp file and displays"Page Cannot Be Displayed". It shows on the title bar as HTTP 500 Internal Server Error.

sophistikatied -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 16:43:28)

Thanks! Here's the actual error message:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0131'

Disallowed Parent Path

/database8/database1_interface/Results/results_page.asp, line 55

The Include file '../../_fpclass/fpdblib.inc' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.

Spooky -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 16:49:14)

Youll need to ask your host to "enable parent paths"
Some actually prefer not to - so you may have to manually modify your code to get it to work

sophistikatied -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 16:54:31)

Are there benefits to having the parent paths disabled?

sophistikatied -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 17:14:21)

Ok- I have enabled the parent paths and that seems to have fixed that error. Now I am getting a separate error on just the Results Page...

Database Results Wizard Error
The operation failed. If this continues, please contact your server administrator.

Is this normal?

Its a security thing - however with the correct permissions, exploits of that type shouldnt occur

sophistikatied -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/18/2005 17:47:26)

I looked over the info in the link you sent. After changing the value from False to True, it gives me an actual error message. I tried using the 2000/2 files and replacing them, but I didn't notice anything working differently. Here is the error message I am now receiving on the results page:

Database Results Wizard Error
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key
'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x1734 Thread 0x17bc DBC 0x14fb42c Jet'.

Thanks for all your help-- there is no way I could figure this out on my own!

Spooky -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/22/2005 12:14:38)

Its best to use an OLEDB connection, but it does require a bit of manual coding

sophistikatied -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/22/2005 12:27:21)

I don't mind a bit of manual coding, but I have no idea what an OLEBD connection is or how I would code it. I'm looking into it now though---! :) I'm learning so much from you guys!

Spooky -> RE: Using FP03 Database Wizard (7/22/2005 12:33:16)

Check out my post in the database forum?
