.NET Framework - 7/19/2005 18:57:19
IIn the Database Interface Wizard, when I select ASP.NET, I am getting a message that says "You must install the .NET Framework to properly preview these controls".

We are running Windows Server 2003, with the ASP.NET option enabled.
Is this just a warning or is it an indication that something is wrong with the installl?

The .NET framework is a client-end set of software that some .NET applications require when having 2-way communications with the browser. You'll find just about any flavor you need right here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?displaylang=en&freeText=.net

If you're running Win2K or XP, you shouldn't have any problem with the framework stuff. I've been running it for almost 2 years now with never an issue.

So the pop-up message is just a warning of sorts? I was under the impression that all the .NET framework was included with a Windows Server 2003 install...?

Thanks for the link, it looks like a great resource!

I'm showing my ignorance here... Since it says that I need to install .NET framework, does that mean that I need to install it on my local machine? I don't understand why I'm getting the message?

Sorry 'bout being a little late.

This is the exact version I run on both Win2K Pro and WinXP Pro:

Hope it helps.

I have one final question on this (I hope it's a final question)... Will my user's also have to have the .NET framework installed on individual machines? If so, how common is it for people to have it included?

To use pages made with .net (.aspx pages) generally the answer is "no".

However, when you start building web services, the answer is generally "yes".

I'm sure that clears things up completely. :) If not here is a good place to start reading: :) :)
