yureeka Posts: 19 Joined: 3/15/2005 Status: offline	Questions about Passwords - 7/20/2005 11:53:08 From what I understand, the Frontpage password feature is easily bypassed and not very secure. By reading around the board, I learned that I need to get ASP scripts or purchase the Spooky Login? Can anyone that uses this type of security provide a link that demonstrates how it all works? I just need some clarification about what I should do? I don't need super US military security, I just don't want any idiot with a few minutes on hand to get in. Also, we have the option of either hosting the site on Windows or Unix, what do you recommend? The Spooky Login is a well written script and is fairly easy to incorporate into your existing website. It is written in ASP so you'll need a Windows server. The basic idea is that the script (in the case of Spooky Login, ASP) compares the login name and password from a form to the pre-registered members in a database. If it matches then the visitor is granted access, otherwise they can't visit your pages. You copy a few lines of code into the top of each page that you want to protect, rename it with an .asp page extension, and upload some files... If you can put everything you want secure, inside a folder, you can use .htaccess to password protect the folder. Ask your host how to do this, or follow the tutorial above. If your control panel doesn't look like that, just look around for similar phrases.
