*Newbie* MS Database Websettings - 7/26/2005 13:38:05
I am a Newbie and I just am not getting answers from my host support desk.
I want to use the Database Interface Wizard.
1. Web Settings
Database Connection
file or folder in current web
http://serverhost.com/db/fpwind.mdb (serverhost.com is of course my server)
Receive check that connection verified

2. Database Interface Wizard
Server error: Unable to retrieve the list of record sources from a
database using the connection string:

Source: ADO
Number: 2146824584 (0x800a0e)

DBQ=http://serverhost.com/db/fpnwind

Please advise what I am doing wrong!!!
Any help would assist in putting me out of the misery I have been experiencing with my host support desk (they know less then I do)

Does your host require that you put your dbs in that folder? Normally, FP puts all databases in its fpdb folder by default.

and Welcome to OutFront!

The database appears in fpdb/ and db/ The host requires the database be uploaded to their server and accessed via the db/ folder.

At first, I think I would request them to reinstall the latest version of MDAC

How are you setting up your connection string?

They say they have MDAC installed.

Ok.. I have removed everything that I thought I was supposed to do. Starting from ground 0.

The Ms Access database is on the host server

I want to use FP Database Interface Wizard.
How should I try to establish the connection with FrontPage?

Is the db folder visible in your web or does it appear below the root?
Has / can the host set up a DSN for this file?

Can you locate and test it with tools > web settings > database?

and locate the file

So using that, you can create a named connection?
Now - if you make a new DRW page, can you connect to that database using that named connection?

Spooky,
It was ME! I gave the database the DNS name instead of the actual database.mdb. I changed it around and am now able to get the DRW to work. Thank you for walking me through the steps.
