front page 2003 problem - 7/31/2005 17:56:40
My fp2003 program refuses to open any files.
I've been running fp2003 successfully (give or take) for the last 1.5 years on an xpPro machine.
After wrestling with it for a while, I did a complete uninstall and reinstall. To no avail. The program opens ok, but does not allow any of the top menu items or short-cut icons to work. After a while of trying, the "experiencing problems and needs to shut down" dialog box appears. When I try to debug, the error message is:

Unhandled exception at 0x39870727 in FRONTPG.EXE: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x01c17008.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Problem resolved by doing a recovery reinstall from the original xp cd. Pain was that I had to reinstall the Windows Updates and Service Pak. Apparently (I'm guessing), there was a file corruption issue somewhere in Windows.
There should be an easier way to identify and repair corrupted files other than reinstalling the whole OS.
