Windows Batch files - 8/1/2005 23:20:25
All,

I am trying to create a batch file to install Windows 2003, SQL Server 2000, Analysis Server 2000, SQL Reporting Server and WSS (Windows Sharepoint Services). I have copied all these files down from the CD, and have the appropriate licenses. Do any of you know how I would create a batch file to install all these on a box? I don’t really care if it is a batch or some kind of script.

Thanks in advance for your help

I don't believe you can install all of those in unattended mode. Some you can and some you can't but MS would know the details.

Are you doing a big rollout? I use a combination of SysPrep and disk imaging software to help with those kinds of things. I use PowerQuest's Drive Image and it does a good job. Basically all you do is build a master image, Sysprep it, copy to new server, re-enter activation codes and your up and running.

Downfall is that the hardware needs to be virtually identical or you run into driver issues and such.

rdouglass,

Thanks, yes I have a big rollout dealing with Gateway, some dell and a few HP servers. I am thinking I might try InstallShield, do you think that would work?

Easy way of doing it would be a ghost image:)

Buty if you want to get he installshield package to allow you to install them all at once, it should be fine.

Some of the progs you want to install need an attended set-up, therefore not allowing you to integrate into the Windows installation, but a ghost image gets round that nice & easy :)

You do have to have similar hardware which can be a 'gotcha' if you're not careful. Same thing I spoke of above, but I never have any luck with Symantec products. That's why I use Drive Image instead. And it's only $50 to boot.
