Zack, I've experienced this same behavior with my Logitech Optical Mouse / Dell Inspiron 9100 Laptop which indicates a weak battery, nothing more. Other things to check: (1) Control Panel / Mouse and (2) Control Panel / Device Manager/ Mice & Other Porting Devices. Last thing: Uninstall the Dynex mouse and buy a new Logitech - $20 USD is cheap in comparison to the aggravation & time expenditure so far.

Hey Zack, Before you purchase a new mouse, you might want to try two additional things: 1. Try the mouse on a 2nd computer, if you experience the same problem, get the Logitech like Larry suggested. 2. Uninstall the drivers and all the software associated with your mouse, and then reinstall it. Make sure you re-plug the cable for the mouse cord aswell. I had this same problem on my old setup, and it took a bit of waiting and killing to get it fixed, but it finally corrected itself on its own. Also, if you decide to buy a mouse, and have one picked out, send me a PM, I might be able to save you some money.

Just an FYI to everyone. I have had this same problem w/one of the laptops that I support (Dell Insp 8100). I had done the same as you suggested, uninstall the mouse, try a different USB port, try a different mouse, try a regular mouse....all that. The only thing that worked was uninstalling it, then oooops! The hard drive crashed! We ended up re-imaging the machine and now...2 months later... the gremlins are back! Hence the reason I am here finding this post! I have also found some info on updating the BIOS, will be doing that also so I can let ya know how it works! If anyone else has any suggestions, let me know! Thanks! :)

Your 8100 is getting some age on it, so it's a good time to update all drivers/patches (including BIOS) appicable to your machine Here Enter your Dell Service Tag # for access.
