Linearizing Tables - 8/4/2005 4:32:36
quote:

5.3 Do not use tables for layout unless the table makes sense when linearized

I realise that linearizing tables only means reading a page as it appears in (X)HTML code form, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way of diasbling tables to see what a page looks like when that's done?

Thanks

Nicole

Try viewing it in Opera and have a play with the accessibility settings there:

Go to View > Style > User mode, and select "Disable tables".

From that menu you can also emulate a text only browser.

Opera also has the facility to check how your site would look on a mobile phone or PDA. When in "normal" view, hit Shift + F11

In the FF developer toolbar you can do the same thing ; Miscellaneous > Linearize

Just for information re mobile phone screen simulations, FF now has an extension to do just this. Look for 'Small screen renderer', in the Developers extensions list.
