FP changing photo gamma?? - 8/9/2005 1:02:55
FrontPage (v2002) is doing a weird thing; it changes the gamma and saturation of my images when I put them into my web page. I have seen this before a long time ago and I know there's a rather simple switch to change, if memory serves, but for the life of me I cannot find it.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Phil

The only way I can think of that FP can do anything to your images is if you use it to manipulate them in some way. Otherwise FP is only writing paths to files.

FP's image manipulation tools can be convenient when you're in a hurry, but they're never the best alternative.

Generally, I would agree with you, but I did all kinds of testing, and the image that resulted from Photoshop was only changed when it was placed in FP.

It's either in the "Save for Web" function in Photoshop, or in FP. I know it's one or the other, (duh) and the fix is easy, but I cannot find it.

Thanks; anyone else?

Phil

I can see how it would happen with "save for web in Phsop." The image generally changes quite a bit at that point. The quality you wind up with depends upon whether you save it as a jpeg or a gif, what pallete you use and how many colors you allow for it if you're using gif, and the quality level if you're using jpg.

Phil,

The settings for saving pictures in FP (2K3) is under Tools > Page Options > Picture (tab) > File Type Settings (button). Use the highest quality setting you can (lowest compression) better yet just set it for 100% quality (assuming you've already done what you wanted in PS). Personally I never let FP touch my images. I edit as I want in PSP (including compression) and drag and drop to my site, no save settings in FP to worry about and no sneaky extra compression.:):)

Thanks, Mike, now we're on to something... but I'm using FP 2002 and I'm not seeing the "Picture" tab you refer to.

Thanks

Phil
