RickP -> Win98 Updates - help! (8/9/2005 15:29:49)

I'm trying to get a second PC running and have clean installed win 98 (not SE). All is okay except the installation of my SpeedTouch 330 (USB) broadband modem. My ISP says they don't support win 98 but the same machine ran the same modem (elsewhere) previously...

When I try to install the modem I run the manufacturer disk first then when I plug in the modem windows starts saying there are loads of missing DLL files...

Do I need some windows updates?

I would like to download all available updates anyhow but how can I download every available win 98 update in full so I can then copy to disk and install on the other machine which is currently offline?

I've looked around MS site and can only find piecemeal updates.

Any suggestions/help!

Thanks

AFAIK the only way to retrieve the updates is to download them from MS

They have a patch disk that you can order for XP, but I don't think they offer it for 98

I think MS has stopped supporting win98

I found this..
http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp

I also know you can order a cd with all the updates on it, but I can't remember where to go.

Thanks Guys

I found the MS page mentioned above but was hoping that I could get a conclusive 'everything in-one-pakage' somehow.

As it now turns out...

This machine was in actual fact running 98SE but I was told that it was running its original software - 98 only. So now I understand why I couldn't get a 98only non-compat modem installed on it!!!!!!

I did make a quick check on the system before wiping it clean and it only said "Win 98" - nothing mentioned on it about being SE - I should have checked deeper I guess.

As it now turns out the person I got this from has found their 98SE disk - so I can start again now!!! [:(] Interestingly, the SE disk I now have says nothing about it being SE either! It just says "win 98"

I may be back!!! [8|]
