FP2003 & AOL - 8/10/2005 19:06:29
I have a client on WinXP Home that uses AOL for her Dial up connection. I recently upgraded her FP from 2000 - 2003 went smooth. I opened FP and clicked Open Web, entered her Domain into the Site Name and clicked OK. FP never connected to the Domain and FP never gave an error or timed out. The other night I had her try it again and FP tried connecting for almost 30 hours and still no error and never timed out. Any help would be great.

Have you tried to import the site?

I have not tried to Import.

I also tried to open one of my own sites that I know should work that is located on my server. It never gave an error message or timed out.

Sweetwater,

Because of the 2000 - 2003 upgrade the host server no longer recognizes your specific computer query, so you need to reestablish your handshake identity.

Import? Ah ....., no not really a good idea :) Best to "Publish Down" (bran0923 may have meant this) which you can do by following these steps:

(1) In FrontPage, open your server files by clicking File >>Open, (2) Browse to “My Network Places” (3) In the File Name field type the complete web site address, for example: " http://www.yourwebsite.com", (4) Enter your username & password when prompted, (5) Once the server files open in FrontPage click File >> Publish Site and, (6) For the address to publish, enter a destination on your hard drive, for example: C:\My Documents\My Webs\mysite. (Note: if the location doesn't exist on your hard drive, you will be prompted to “Create? Yes or No”. Answer Yes.)

Last step: Republish to Host Overwriting all Files - Site will then be “In Step”

I'm not trying to Publish. I haven't even gotten to the point where I can actually login to her site at all.

I'm trying to connect to the site, using the File> Open Site command (which on my home computer works perfectly fine).

I never ever use the Publish command in FP because it still does not work very well. I always either build the site in FP then FTP using WSFTP or build Live using the File>Open Site commands and save it directly to the server.

Do you have FP extensions enabled on that server?

FP extentions are enabled on the GODaddy Server. I was able to log in her site via my own computer without any problems. We did finally log in and things are working well for her now.
