iforwms -> LaCie External HD problems (8/12/2005 13:51:37)
I run windows XP, everything up to date blah blah, I have just bought an 80gb external HD by LaCie, designed by Porsche, and when I try and plug in the USB (its a USB 2.0 cable but into a USB 1.1 port as I dont have USB 2.0) cable my PC just restarts. I guess its just a hardware incompatibility, any chance the problem can be rectified, or am I going to have to send it back? Thanks in advance

From what I have read about the new external disks, they don't work too well on USB 1.1

I know the feeling just sent Soon to be Ex-Wife a external Hard drive enclosure and she too ran into the problem of USB connection from enclosure and 2.0 cable into 1.1 slot incompatabilities. You might obtain a PCI card for 2 additional usb ports and 1 firewire port, Refurbished or New. This PCI card allows compatability between USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 I found one on newegg refurbished for 28.00// New was 56.00
That is why I looked for a PCI card that helps make 1.1 and 2.0 compatable, This just had 1 external fire wire port in rear * but a second fire wire connection on board * with wire connector, Just in case you have a additional fire wire ports else where.
