IBM donates code to Firefox - 8/16/2005 11:00:23
Here's an interesting article I came across elsewhere:http://www.internetnews.com/xSP/article.php/3527341
which proves big companies can be forward-thinking.

I always thought that "Big Blue" had a heart, somewhere deep in the depths of the 360/370s :)

This is interesting,
quote:

According to figures provided by IBM, the Pew Internet & American Life Project published findings that show seniors -- who are more likely to have a visual or motor disabilities -- are the fastest-growing Internet group in recent years. Seniors made up 15 percent of the online population in 2000, the report said, compared to 22 percent last year.

Until the next release of Fx, you can still use the FoxyVoice extension which acts as a speech reader.

You can also find out more about the Mozilla Accessibility Project

It’s interesting that a major corporation has finally seen the opportunity which exists in an accessible internet rather than seeing it as the threat that most other corporations / companies / individuals large and small do.

Can anyone remember back to when homosexuality was seen as a threat, those people were discriminated against terribly, probably still are, but it took a very long time for the business world to wake up to the fact that gay couples usually had two incomes and no children, wow what potential disposable income they must have?

I think it was Toyota who first realized this in Australia and began marketing their products to this potential goldfield. To the disgust of many, their television commercials even showed a gay couple instead of the nuclear family. Don’t really know how that ended up, but I don’t hear too much about Mazda and Nissan these days.

It may be a slightly different scenario, but in every threat / problem there is opportunity, and those that grab it will always continue to thrive.

Congratulations to IBM!

Nicole

IBM just made a very wise decision. I haven't seem much from IBM lately, looks like they might be taking the spotlight again!
