Accessibility and pdf's - 8/23/2005 10:00:31
On the new look List Apart site there is an excellent article by Joe Clark on the accessibility features inherent in the pdf format. He also debunks some common misconceptions about the use of the format with assisstive technology. If you are in Australia or Canada he points to the flaws in the Accessibilty legislation regarding the use of pdf's.

There is much more that you need to read if you regularly use pdf's on your sites.

pdf accessibility

Good stuff.

Good link caz, thanks for that.

Interesting that the guy who sued the Sydney Olympics Committee now works for HREOC, or did he work for them then too?

What I found interesting is that pdf's because of their semantic structure are natively accessible. It never actually crossed my mind when importing tags that it would be so; I just imported tags so that index creation would be easier :)

Good link Caz, and obviously something I need to read in detail. I tend to use pdfs a lot for leaflets because they avoid the problem of text falling off pages etc. that commonly happens with Word documents. Something for me to do some more thinking over, and probably some more work...
