microsoft data link errors to mysql database - 8/27/2005 13:45:58
Microsoft Data Link Problem hello, all. i'm having a problem setting up a database connection from Microsoft Word. my goal is to retrieve data from my MySQL database to include in a Word document. the table being referenced here has one row of data. here are the steps i've taken thus far: 1. installed MyODBC driver 2. set up a System DSN a. Start / Settings / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Data Sources (ODBC) b. then clicked Add c. Scrolled down and chose the newly installed MySQL driver d. in the "connector/odbc - add data source name" supplied the login info (i) data source name = tfs credit services (ii) description = credit services info (iii) server = localhost (iv) user = root (v) password = ******** (vi) database = test (from drop down list) e. clicked "test" and message alerted me "success; connection was made." 4. opened the Word application 5. create a blank new document 6. in the Database tool bar, pressed the Insert Database button. 7. clicked "get data" 8. clicked "connect to data source" 9. clicked "ODBC DSN" 10. clicked tfs credit services 11. selected "test" as the database that contains the data 12. placed check mark in "connect to specific table" 13. double clicked on the "creditsvcs" table 14. clicked finish 15. Data Link Properties a. under connection tab, chose "use connection string" b. clicked "test connection" c. alert box appeared: "Test connection failed because of an error ininitializing provider. Catastrophic failure" d. even if i bypass "test connection" and click "ok" i get alert box: "Word connot open +Connect to New Data Source as a data or header source because it contains no data." or if i go back to Data Link Properties and do the following: a. under connection tab, chose "use data source name 'tfs credit services' b. supplied user name and password c. alert box appeard: "Test connection failed because of an error ininitializing provider. Catastrophic failure" d. even if i bypass "test connection" and click "ok" i get alert box: "Record 1 contained too few data fields." "Record 2 contained too few data fields." "Record 1 contained too few data fields." does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
